INSPIRATIONS

Sometimes we need a little inspiration as we go through a major career transition or life change process. We will be updating this section regularly. In the meantime, these are some writings that many of my clients have found helpful.

CAREER QUOTATIONS
Quotes that keep coming back at you.

Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go out and do that. Because what the world needs more than anything is people who have come alive.
– Harold Whitman

"The idea that will reshape our times and our careers, the most powerful catalyst of our age, is that each individual can be the predominant creative force in his or her own life........... Once you have discovered that, your life will be forever changed."
– Fritz

"We see things not as they are, but as we are."
Try seeing your situation from a different perspective. You have more options than you think.

"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are for."
Make your preparations, gather your resources and do your research. At some point you have to set sail to accomplish your career goals. Remember that starting is the hardest part.

"Sometimes we look so longingly upon the door which has just closed, that we fail to see those which have opened for us."
Let go of your past. That was then; this is now. Focus on the present and your hopes for the future. Go for it!
– Helen Keller

POEMS
Poetry you can tape to your refrigerator door...

COMMITMENT
by Goethe

Until one is committed
there is hesitancy,
the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of initiative
there is one elementary truth,
the ignorance of which destroys countless
ideas and splendid plans.

That the moment one definitely
commits oneself,
then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur
to help one that otherwise
would never have occurred.

A whole stream of events
issues from the decision,
raising in one's favor all
manner of unforeseen incidents and
meetings and
material assistance which no one
could have possibly dreamt
would come this way.

So whatever you can do,
or dream you can do,
begin it now.
Boldness has genius,
power and magic in it.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
By Portia Nelson

Chapter I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost..I am helpless,
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again!
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in.....it’s a habit,
my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter V
I walk down another street.
